Pool Builders in Fort Myers, FL

An independent guide for homeowners planning a new in-ground pool in Fort Myers and Lee County: who builds pools locally, what the rules are, and what to ask before you sign.

Last updated November 5, 2026. Independent guide, not a pool company.

If you own a home in Fort Myers, the county seat of Lee County, and you are thinking about a new in-ground pool, you are choosing between a short list of local companies and a long list of firms that only clean, repair or resurface pools. This page separates them. It lists the Fort Myers pool builders we could verify, explains the rules that apply to a new pool in Lee County, and links to plain-English guides on cost, permits, pool types and timing.

How to read this page. Every business detail below was collected on November 5, 2026 from public Google Maps listings and each company's own website. Ratings change. Check the live listing before you decide.

Renovation and resurfacing specialists

Some companies in Fort Myers focus on remodeling, resurfacing and renovating existing pools. They may also take on construction work, but their own sites lead with renovation, so we list them separately. Ask each one directly whether they build new pools.

What a pool builder does

A full-service pool builder handles the job from the first sketch to the final inspection. In practice that means a design, a site plan for the permit office, excavation, steel or a prefabricated shell, plumbing and electrical, the interior finish or liner, the deck, and the inspections that close the permit. Some builders do every step with their own crews. Others use subcontractors for electrical work, decking or screen enclosures. Ask who does what, and who is responsible if something goes wrong.

Many Fort Myers builders also offer related work. Bahama Pools of Florida lists pool cages and screen features on its site, and Colonial Pool & Spa lists heaters and remote automation. These add-ons change your final price, so ask for them as separate lines on the quote.

What you need to know before you hire

License

Florida has license categories for pool work. A certified contractor holds a state license and may work anywhere in Florida. A registered contractor is limited to the places where they registered. Section 489.105 of the Florida Statutes also separates residential pool/spa contractors from commercial ones. Take the license number from the contract or the contractor's website and look it up on the DBPR site yourself. The builder checklist walks through it.

Permit

Lee County's guide says an in-ground pool needs a residential pool permit. The county issues it only for unincorporated areas. If your address is inside a city, ask that city's building department. Our permit guide explains the difference and what the application has to show about the safety barrier.

Safety features

State law asks for at least one of five safety features on a new residential pool. A barrier must be at least four feet high on the outside. The full list is in the fact sheet, with section numbers.

Cost

The honest answer is that a Fort Myers price depends on size, shape, finish, deck, screen enclosure and equipment. Published national ranges are wide, and they come from lead-generation sites, not from builders' contracts. Use them to sanity-check quotes, not to set a budget. Details are in the cost guide.

How we built this list

On November 5, 2026 we searched Google Maps near Fort Myers, FL for "pool builders", "swimming pool contractor", "custom pool builder" and "pool construction". We removed fence, roofing, paver, screen enclosure, cleaning and general remodeling companies. We kept businesses whose Google category or own website pointed to building pools, and we read their sites for services, history and license numbers. Two sites blocked our automated reader, so for those we only list what Google Maps shows. We did not contact any company.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to build a pool in Fort Myers?

We did not find a trustworthy Fort Myers price survey, so we do not quote one. National figures, which NerdWallet reports from Angi, HomeAdvisor and HomeGuide, run from $20,000 to $40,000 for vinyl, $20,000 to $85,000 for fiberglass and $35,000 to $120,000 for concrete or gunite (updated August 26, 2025). Written quotes from local builders are the only way to get a real number. See our pool cost guide.

Do I need a permit to build a pool in Lee County?

Yes for an in-ground pool. Lee County's pool permitting guide says a residential pool permit is required to build or renovate an in-ground pool. Which office issues it depends on where your home sits: unincorporated Lee County or inside a city. Read the Lee County pool permit guide.

Does my pool builder need a license in Florida?

Florida law defines a residential pool/spa contractor in section 489.105(3)(k) of the Florida Statutes, and the state runs a license search at the Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR). Look up the license number before you sign anything. Our builder checklist shows how.

What safety rules apply to a new pool in Florida?

Under section 515.27 of the Florida Statutes, a new residential pool must have at least one of five safety features: a barrier, a safety cover, exit alarms on doors and windows, self-closing and self-latching doors, or a pool alarm. Your county, city or HOA may ask for more, so check with them.

How long does it take to build a pool?

Industry blogs describe permitting as taking about a week to several months, and the build itself as roughly one to three weeks for the pool shell, with decking and extras on top. These figures are not specific to Florida. See how long it takes and ask each builder for a written schedule.

Which type of pool is best for Fort Myers: concrete, fiberglass or vinyl?

It depends on budget, shape and how long you plan to keep the house. Our pool type comparison explains the trade-offs using published cost and lifespan ranges.

Are you a pool builder, and can you give me a quote?

No. This is an independent guide. It lists local builders and explains the process, but it does not build pools or quote prices. Contact the builders directly.
